Loving ‘Nine Armenians’

While my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the play “Nine Armenians” at the Mark Taper, it’s too bad Laurie Winer’s enjoyment was somewhat diluted (“‘Armenians’ Is Generic Despite Trappings,” July 25).
In her mostly perceptive review, Winer’s few negative observations certainly did not reflect the audience’s warm appreciation of this drama. It was a full house, with smiles and tears all around.
Winer saw it as “slim and generic.” But most of us there saw it as much, much more: sweet, rhapsodic, evocative, loving and--most rare these days--suitably humorous for young and old.
I believe future audiences will also find it so.
