The California Arts Council on Thursday awarded Arts Orange County $12,800 for a countywide arts-education study designed to help improve arts education in the county’s public schools, said council spokeswoman Sally Ann Davis. The three-year project, which would identify areas of need and ways in which private funders, artists and arts organizations might help, is expected to cost about $80,000, so additional support also is being sought, according to Arts Orange County. The money for Arts Orange County and 19 other grants from the CAC’s new Local Arts Education Partnership Program, was generated through sales of the state’s arts license plate, which has a palm tree design created by California artist Wayne Thiebaud.
