ICN’s Net Income Up in 2nd Quarter

COSTA MESA — Drug manufacturer ICN Pharmaceuticals Inc. reported net income of $21.3 million, or 53 cents a share, for the second quarter, which included a $12-million noncash charge on a class-action lawsuit settlement and an $11.6-million tax benefit. That compares with net income of $14.9 million, or 42 cents a share, for the 1996 second quarter. Sales were up 11% to $160.2 million from $143.7 million. Net income for the first half rose 18% to $43.6 million, or $1.03 a share, from $36.9 million, or $1.07 a share, for the comparable six months last year. Sales advanced 13% to $319.2 million from $281.9 million.
