PacBell Chief Executive Moves to SBC

Dave Dorman, president and chief executive of Pacific Bell, will become executive vice president of strategic planning for SBC Communications, the Texas-based Baby Bell that merged with PacBell parent Pacific Telesis Group in April. Dorman will move to SBC’s headquarters in San Antonio, where he will be responsible for the company’s long-distance and Internet services, said PacBell spokeswoman Linda Bonnikson. Ed Mueller, PacBell’s president of network services, will replace Dorman. Until four months ago, Mueller served as president and chief executive of Southwestern Bell, the SBC unit that serves Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas. In other executive changes, Ray Wilkins will join PacBell from Southwestern Bell to become president of business communications services. Bob Lee, who formerly held that job, was named executive vice president for merger transition. A PacBell employee said a companywide voicemail message announced that Lee had resigned, but Bonnikson could not confirm that on Friday afternoon.
