Council to Consider Parking Restrictions

Responding to concerns about overflow parking from a large apartment complex, the City Council on Monday will consider banning parking on Ogle Street between Irvine and Aliso avenues from midnight to 6 a.m.

Residents on Ogle Street complain that tenants of the nearby Oakwood Apartments on Irvine Avenue in Newport Beach take up too much parking and also make noise when they arrive late at night.

Residents in 17 of the 20 homes on the 400 block of Ogle Street signed a petition asking for restrictions, according to a city report.

A license plate survey found that many of the cars that regularly park in the area are not Ogle Street residents.

As alternatives, the city is considering permit-only parking for Ogle Street or stepping up enforcement of the 72-hour parking ordinance already in place.

The council also will consider resident-only parking on College Drive between Nassau Road and Fair Drive, where there is a two-hour parking limit.

Residents there complain about an apparent parking shortage caused by residents of the Mediterranean Village Apartments.

The City Council meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers, 77 Fair Drive.
