Regional Library Will Be Open Sundays

The San Juan Capistrano Regional Library will open its doors an extra day starting Sunday after receiving $40,000 in additional county funds.
The Board of Supervisors recently set aside $1.6 million in added funds for the county’s 26 libraries. The local library plans to use its funds to reopen on Sundays and to buy more books, magazines and materials.
“I’m excited about the funds that have been made available,” Councilman John Greiner, vice chair of the county’s Library Advisory Board, said. “We’re going, I think, to have much better service.”
The county library budget has been slashed in recent years because of the county bankruptcy and state budget problems.
Now that more money is available, officials say all county libraries will be opened a minimum of five days a week, with the three regional centers operating at least six days a week.
“We are absolutely ecstatic that the Board of Supervisors have recognized the importance of libraries to our residents and see this as a major step in restoring services,” County Librarian John Adams said.
The San Juan Capistrano Regional Library’s new hours are Monday through Wednesday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. The library is closed Friday.
The library is at 31495 El Camino Real. Information: (714) 493-1752.
