* Alma Ritchie; Retired College Administrator Alma Rodriguez Ritchie of Ojai, a sixth-generation Californian and a retired college administrator, died Wednesday. She was 89.
Ritchie was born Nov. 26, 1907, in Ventura. She graduated from Ventura High School and received a bachelor’s degree and teaching credential from the former Santa Barbara State College.
Ritchie taught Spanish in the Santa Barbara Adult Education Program and later taught Spanish and home economics at Santa Barbara and La Cumbre junior high schools. She became supervisor of home economics programs in the secondary schools and was an instructor of sex education in elementary schools.
In 1951, Ritchie was appointed assistant dean of Santa Barbara College’s adult education program, making substantial contributions to its development. The program now serves more than 36,000 adults each year.
She retired from that assignment in 1971.
Ritchie was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Barbara and was a member of the California Retired Teachers Assn. and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Ritchie moved to Ojai in 1991 to be near her family.
She is survived by two sisters, Ynez Rodriguez of Ventura and Juanita Callender of Ojai; a niece, Susana Arce of Ojai; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, and her son, Robert.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapel in Santa Barbara. Interment will be at Ivy Lawn Cemetery.
