High Desert Closes In on Lancaster’s Division Lead

Stanton Cameron hit his 27th home run, which leads the California League, and the High Desert Mavericks downed the Lancaster JetHawks, 7-3, Friday night at Maverick Stadium in Adelanto.
Erik Sobel (8-10) limited the JetHawks (59-53 overall, 26-16 in the second half), to seven hits and one earned run--on Luis Molina’s seventh home run--in seven innings.
High Desert (63-49, 25-17) moved to within one game of the Valley Division-leading JetHawks in the second-half race.

Scanning Thursday’s box scores: TRIPLE A--Charlotte right-fielder Chris Sheff (Pepperdine) had two hits, including a double in a 4-3 loss to Syracuse. . . . Left-fielder Ryan Radmanovich (Pepperdine) hit his 24th home run and knocked in three runs to pace Salt Lake over Tucson, 13-9. DOUBLE A--Portland first baseman Kevin Millar (Hart) had four hits, including two doubles and his 25th home run, and drove in two runs in a 5-4 loss to Binghamton. Millar leads the Eastern League with 103 runs batted in. . . . Bowie shortstop David Lamb (Newbury Park) had three hits, including a double in a 7-1 victory over Trenton. SINGLE A--Right-hander Mike McMullen (Granada Hills, Glendale College) struck out three batters in two scoreless innings to pick up his third save in San Jose’s 9-7 victory over Modesto.
