Two Oxnard men suffered hypothermia Saturday when a 17-foot outboard pleasure boat capsized seven miles south of the Channel Islands Harbor, according to a U.S. Coast Guard spokesman.
The men were flown by a Coast Guard helicopter to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where they were treated and released. A third man on the boat who was not injured was taken ashore by the county-run Channel Islands Harbor Patrol, said Officer Tony Pariga.
The incident, which happened about 12:30 p.m., was reported by boaters on a 26-foot sloop, Pariga said. Officials don’t know why the boat turned over.
At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Coast Guard crews were out again. This time it was 300 yards from Silver Strand Beach in Oxnard, where they rescued a man in his 20s whose sailboat mast had broken.
The man was taken ashore safely.
