Hope Marie Vint; Longtime Librarian

Hope Marie Vint of Santa Paula, a retired Ventura County librarian, died Friday at home with her family. She was 89.

Vint was born July 25, 1908, in Marcus, Iowa. She graduated from Clark College in Iowa and moved to Ventura in 1943 with her husband, Edward.

Vint’s daughter, Paula Anderson of Santa Paula, said her mother was a librarian for 23 years in different parts of the county and was one of the early Ventura County bookmobile drivers.

“It must have been in the 1950s,” Anderson said. “She used to drive it all by herself right out of Foster Library on Main Street. She would go all the way up to Santa Susana . . . and Frazier Park right over the grade.”

Vint went to work after her husband died in 1948 of a brain tumor, leaving her with four children, Anderson said.

“Thank goodness she had a college education.”

Vint was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ventura and a member of the Young Ladies Institute.
