Kathleen Celio scored three goals to lead the Southern California Blues of Dana Point to a 5-0 victory over Busch SC of St. Louis in the third-place game of the girls’ under-19 division in the Snickers U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship in Phoenix.

Spain, with 10 returning Olympians from the 1996 gold-medal winning team, took a 4-0 lead through one quarter and went on to defeat the United States, 10-6, in a Unicom Cup international water polo tournament game Saturday in Budapest, Hungary.

Jeremy Laster of Capistrano Beach scored twice for the United States. Wolf Wigo, Steve Gill, Omar Amr, and Ryan Bailey also scored for the U.S. team.

Liz Masakayan and Elaine Youngs won three of four matches to advance to the semifinals of the FIVB Volleyball World Tour event at Espinho, Portugal. They will meet Monica Rodriguez and Adriana Samuel of Brazil. The Evian National Championships will be played Friday through next Sunday at Hermosa Beach. . . . Eric Bergoust of the United States won the second round of the freestyle skiing World Cup at Mount Buller, Australia. Bergoust earned 129.94 points for his second jump, a quadruple twist triple back somersault, to total 242.53 and defeat teammate Britt Swartley.
