Five of the top 10 women players will converge on Manhattan Country Club for Monday’s Acura Classic at Manhattan Beach.
Martina Hingis, Monica Seles, Lindsay Davenport, Amanda Coetzer and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario highlight the field at the $450,000 tournament.
Davenport, the 1996 Olympic champion, won the event last year, her first tournament victory in the United States.
Wild cards were taken by 16-year-old Anna Kournikova and 17-year-old Venus Williams. Williams’ younger sister, Serena, will play qualifying, only the second time the two young players have tried to participate in the same tournament.
