A 17-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder Monday afternoon in what police described as a gang-related incident near Venice High School.
Two suspects reportedly shouted gang slogans at the victim, who was not believed to be a gang member, then shot at him. The attack took place in the 3900 block of Redwood Avenue, said Culver City Police Department Sgt. Craig Bloor. One bullet struck the boy. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.
The shooting occurred in an area that has been plagued by sporadic violence between rival gangs.
