City Councilman John Zaragoza is recovering from gallstone surgery and will take about two weeks off from local politics to recover.
Zaragoza had surgery Friday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, but complications developed and he remained at St. John’s until Tuesday.
“I’m not 100%. I’m home convalescing,” Zaragoza said.
“It was a successful operation,” he added. “Right now, it’s just a matter of time to get well.”
Zaragoza missed Tuesday’s council meeting and said he hoped to return by the Aug. 19 meeting. Zaragoza said he would also take time off from Home Center Residential and Investment Properties, where he works as a broker and income tax preparer.
Before winning a seat on the council last year, the 55-year-old Zaragoza worked for the city of Oxnard for more than 30 years, eventually becoming refuse superintendent.
