Chaleff Confirmed for Police Commission

The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday unanimously confirmed the appointment of attorney Gerald Chaleff to sit on the powerful Police Commission, but at least one lawmaker questioned whether the panel adequately represents the city’s diversity.
Chaleff and fellow attorney Dean Hansell, who is scheduled for a confirmation vote today, replace departing commission President Ray Fisher and Vice President Art Mattox.
Councilman Joel Wachs said he had no qualms about voting for Chaleff, but questioned whether a commission of four attorneys and a “wealthy businessman” should be running the city’s most important department.
