State High Court Refuses to Review Playa Vista Ruling
- Share via
A state Supreme Court decision not to review a case involving the city of Los Angeles’ handling of the proposed Playa Vista project was lauded Tuesday by the project’s developers, but greeted with dismay by environmental groups.
An earlier appellate court decision found that the city sufficiently considered the environmental impact of the proposed development before approving it. The state high court declined to review that ruling. The project would include, among things, the planned DreamWorks studio.
Attorney Kevin Johnson, who represents the Earth Trust Foundation and the four other groups that petitioned for review, was disappointed but not surprised by the court’s denial.
The high court reviews less than 3% of cases presented to it, he said.
A lawsuit filed by environmental groups in federal court against the Army Corps of Engineers is pending.
