No Rampant Medical Test Cheating Found

A cheating scandal that held up licensing test scores for some 20,000 medical students across the country was not as widespread as first feared, the head of the testing agency said. The National Board of Medical Examiners had withheld scores from the June test since Friday as officials investigated the cheating, but they decided to release the untainted scores Aug. 12. Board president Thompson Bowles said investigators found the cheating on the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination was not as bad as first suspected. Bowles said last week that some test takers could have had advance access to the exam.
