Rains Trigger Slides, Floods; 24 Killed

Landslides and floods triggered by heavy rains killed at least 24 people in the northeastern region, officials and news reports said. The deaths pushed the monsoon season fatalities to 421. Seventeen people were killed in a landslide in the Darjeeling hills in West Bengal state, officials said. At least three people were killed elsewhere in West Bengal, and two each drowned in Jamshedpur and Gaya districts in Bihar state, the Press Trust of India reported. More than 100,000 people were displaced by the floods, it said.
