Line Break Cuts Off Power to 10,000 Homes

Nearly 10,000 homes lost electrical power for about three hours Thursday when a power line splice broke and sent live wires falling to the ground, a spokesman for Southern California Edison said.
Company investigators were unsure what caused the connector on a 16,000-volt overhead power line near Platt Avenue and Bullis Road to fail at 12:56 p.m., Edison spokesman Tom Boyd said.
By 4:13 p.m., workers were able to reroute electricity and return power to the affected area, Boyd said, adding that no injuries were reported.
