Surfer Becomes First Summer Drowning Fatality

A 43-year-old surfer drowned Thursday morning in the ocean. Alejandro Amorsolo of Los Angeles was pronounced dead at Santa Monica Hospital after being pulled out of the water by a fellow surfer.
Lifeguards said Amorsolo was hit by three large waves as he paddled out. They said his death was the first ocean drowning in Los Angeles County this summer.
A fire engine was flagged down by a beach-goer as it was passing by the scene,said Los Angeles Fire Dept. spokesman Bob Collins. Firefighters then called an ambulance. Amorsolo was pronounced dead at the hospital.
