City General Plan Update Completed

After five years of work by residents and city officials, Port Hueneme has completed an update to its General Plan, which will guide the community’s development through 2015.
The City Council approved the document this week.
Because the bedroom community is largely built-out, the impact of what is often a far-reaching document in other cities is somewhat muted, officials said. The plan is seen as a refinement of existing policy rather than a statement of a new direction, Planner Greg Brown said.
The most significant changes include a billboard ban, a modest increase of 317 new homes and the addition of more than 1 million square feet of commercial retail and light industrial space.
The business-related construction will largely occur on the Port of Hueneme, which recently acquired 33 acres of former military land for expansion.
