Christopher Bishop, 18, of Placentia, has been awarded a scholarship from Chevron Corp. for a summer program in Japan through Youth for Understanding International Exchange.
Bishop, who recently graduated from Valencia High School, received about $5,000 in scholarship money, which will pay for his trip to stay with a host family in Japan.
Chevron is one of 50 multinational corporations offering scholarships through the exchange program. More than 300 students receive corporate scholarships each year to travel abroad through the group’s exchange programs.
The nonprofit program, established in 1951, promotes international understanding and world peace through exchange programs for high school students.
