Leak May Postpone Mission to Saturn

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The unmanned Titan 4B rocket intended to send NASA’s Cassini probe to Saturn leaked during a countdown test and the mission may be delayed, NASA said. Leaks of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen were detected during a routine countdown demonstration at Cape Canaveral Air Station. Until further tests are conducted, it’s uncertain whether the problem will delay Cassini’s Oct. 6 scheduled launch, officials said. Every day’s delay after that means less scientific payback.
