Real Crime on the News

Howard Rosenberg’s suggestion that we televise executions (“Let’s Bring Cameras to Death’s Door,” Aug. 4) overlooked the fact that we’ve already done that. The whole country watched one a few months ago, on the streets of North Hollywood, as police nonchalantly stood over a fallen bank robber who died very slowly, unattended.

Thanks to Howard Rosenberg for his “review” of the local TV stations airing car chases ad nauseam. We couldn’t agree with him more that the endless coverage of car chases is vacuous and totally out of perspective with the other news events of the day. They give the pathetic drivers their 15 minutes of fame, and they give new meaning to the term “talking heads” when referring to the news anchors. It is apparent that without a script, they are unable to ad lib with any success.
