PIA Merchandising Appoints Chief Financial Officer

* Cathy L. Wood has been named chief financial officer and executive vice president of PIA Merchandising Services Inc. in Irvine. Wood had been chief financial officer, vice president, secretary and treasurer of Giant Group Ltd., a holding company. Before that, she was senior vice president and chief financial officer at Wherehouse Entertainment Inc.

* Barbara Schneider has been appointed chief operating officer of Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, its Tustin rehabilitation facility and the Bartlett long-term care center. Schneider was previously chief operating officer of Suburban Medical Center in Paramount.

* Hal Schoenberg has joined Smartflex Systems Inc., a Tustin provider of electronic assemblies and subassemblies, as director of quality assurance and reliability. Schoenberg’s prior positions included director of quality and customer satisfaction for International Rectifier Corp. and region quality manager for Hewlett-Packard Co.

* Dan Shewmaker has been named manager of pre-press services and expanded multimedia and pre-press capacities for Strategies, a Costa Mesa marketing communications agency. He was formerly a graphic artist at Signature Printing.

* Wayne W. Smith has transferred to the Irvine office of Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher law firm from the Los Angeles office. He joined Gibson, Dunn in 1972. Smith specializes in commercial and business litigation.

* Thomas R. Cammann has assumed responsibilities for Orange County’s middle-market operations for the insurance brokerage firm of J&H; Marsh & McLennan in Newport Beach. Cammann, a senior vice president, has handled similar duties in the downtown Los Angeles office.

* Peter Walters has joined National Business Records Center Inc. in Irvine as account executive. He was previously a senior account executive with Moore Business Forms.

* Anthony Ferrero has been appointed vice president of development for MBK Senior Properties Ltd., a division of MBK Real Estate Ltd. in Irvine. Prior to his new position, he was vice president for MBK’s retail division. Ferrero’s responsibilities include the acquisition, entitlement and construction of senior communities throughout California.
