Girl, 17, Treated After Apparent Suicide Try at Center

A 17-year-old girl was being treated for a throat wound in a local hospital Sunday evening, after an apparent suicide attempt at the Ventura School state detention facility, authorities said.

The girl, a ward at the California Youth Authority center, 3100 Wright Road in Camarillo, allegedly tried to slit her throat with a safety razor about 6:40 p.m., according to authorities.

Paramedics and Ventura County Fire Department personnel arrived and found the girl conscious and breathing. She was bleeding from a one-inch throat wound as well as several cuts to her arms, authorities said.
