Cooler Temperatures to Prevail This Week

What a difference a week makes.

San Fernando Valley residents can expect a turnaround from the heat that baked the area last week as forecasters predict a drop in temperatures.

Early in the week, morning low clouds and fog will shroud the area until the sun breaks through in the afternoons, said John Sherwin, a meteorologist with WeatherData, which provides forecasts to The Times.

On Thursday and Friday, temperatures are expected to be slightly above normal, ranging from the upper 80s to the mid-90s, with partly cloudy to mostly clear skies, Sherwin said.

“Basically, what has happened is that there is a strong onshore flow that has allowed fog and low clouds to spread inland from the coast,” Sherwin said, explaining the weather change.

The onshore flow, combined with a thick marine layer, is expected to keep the Valley cool, Sherwin said. Temperatures are expected to remain in the upper 70s in Burbank and around 80 degrees in Van Nuys, Woodland Hills and Chatsworth today.
