A Baldwin Park motorist saved a man from the burning wreckage of a car that careened off the southbound San Gabriel River Freeway and plunged about 80 feet off an embankment, authorities said.
Tomas Montaya pulled Minh Vo, 25, from the flaming Honda after Vo’s car veered off the freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.
Authorities airlifted Vo to County-USC Medical Center. He was listed in critical condition with second- and third-degree burns over 50% of his body, a CHP officer said.
Montaya suffered second-degree burns to his hands when he dragged Vo from the vehicle and then rolled him over to extinguish his burning clothes, said CHP Officer Robert Marinz.
Vo, of Monterey Park, was driving about 65 mph early Monday when the car veered right and became airborne, Marinz said.
