Help of Public Sought in Apartment Shooting

Los Angeles police are asking the public for information that could lead to the arrest of the shooter who fired 20 rounds into a Mar Vista apartment, injuring a 45-year-old woman and barely missing a sleeping 2-year-old boy.
About 20 bullets ripped through the window of a first-floor apartment, tearing through the woman’s arm and blasting through a wall about five feet from where her grandson slept during the early morning incident. Police did not release the names of the victims, who did not want to be identified.
Two men, John Valdez, 18, and Armando Garcia, 20, both of Mar Vista, were arrested after they were seen driving erratically from the scene, but police have not identified them as suspects in the shooting. Det. Peter Waack said that after police gave chase, the two backed up and tried to ram the patrol car.
They were arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and are being held on $50,000 bail each, said Waack. Police said they were not carrying a gun. Those with information can call (310) 202-4506.
