School Vouchers

For years now, the anti-public education crowd, consisting of the Catholic Church, the religious right and Libertarians, has touted school vouchers as a way to “improve” public education. Finally Phillip Stalians (letter, July 31) has clearly explained the real reason behind school vouchers: “School vouchers for private schools .J.J. are what’s needed. The public school system ... should be abolished.” Pretty straightforward.

We need to realize that vouchers aren’t about improving public education, they are about doing away with public education while handing over taxpayer money to private schools (80% of which are church run).
