Lynn Root; Writer of Musical ‘Cabin in the Sky’

Lynn Root, 92, who wrote the important black-cast Broadway musical “Cabin in the Sky.” Root began his career as a stage actor in New York in the 1920s, a protege who appeared in many productions of Antoinette Perry, for whom the Tony Awards are named. But Root then switched to writing, doing several shows and “Cabin” in the 1940s. Relocating to Hollywood, he became a screenwriter providing scripts for such stars as Cary Grant, Fred Astaire and Bob Hope. Root and his wife, Helen, later collaborated on comedies produced in several smaller theaters around the country. On July 21 in Los Angeles.
