Tight End Leaves Washington State for OCC

Ivan Mercer, a freshman tight end who also plays volleyball, has transferred from Washington State to Orange Coast, football Coach Bill Workman announced Tuesday.
Workman said Mercer, who was redshirt at Washington State last season, made the move primarily because he wanted to resume his volleyball career, but he also will play football for the Pirates.
Mercer, who is 6-7 and 225 pounds, played at Roseville Oakmont High.

Dave van Bremen has resigned as La Habra High boys’ basketball coach and the school is seeking a successor, Athletic Director Frank McCarroll announced.

John Lepak of La Habra finished in a tie for ninth in the Independent Insurance Agents boys’ junior golf tournament in Pueblo, Colo. Lepak shot three-over-par 291 for four rounds, including 72 on the final day. David Gossett of Germantown, Tenn., won the tournament for the second straight year. He shot 13-under 275 to win by five shots.
Brian Sinay of Irvine was 15th with 294, and Ronald Won of Irvine was 16th with 295.
