Starscene Fiesta to Celebrate Diversity

The summer Starscene Fiesta will celebrate the cultural diversity of North Hollywood this weekend with a mariachi band, Veracruzano musicians, Aztec dancers, magic shows and a petting zoo.
The August edition of the twice-a-year event at North Hollywood Park had been known as the Starscene Festival, but organizers changed it in recognition of the area’s sizable Latino population. The May edition will continue to be known as the Starscene Festival.
“This one is the bigger of the two. We decided to take the bigger one and add the word fiesta,” said Craig Sakacs, an assistant to his mother, Debra Sakacs, executive director of the North Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. “This way it has its own identity.”
Proceeds from the three-day event will be shared by the chamber and local charities.
In addition to live music and dancing, booths with food, arts and crafts are planned. Admission is free to the fiesta, which is scheduled from 5 p.m. to midnight on Friday, noon to midnight on Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. on Sunday.
North Hollywood Park is next to the 170 Freeway, at the corner of Magnolia Boulevard and Tujunga Avenue.
