City Council Proposes One-Acre Park for Dogs

The city has thousands of dogs, but no dog park. And so, after a heated City Council debate, the city is proposing to establish a one-acre dog park, said city spokeswoman Randi Joseph.
Estimated cost for the park ranges from $40,000 to $80,000, depending on whether the park is made from turf or gravel, she said.
The proposal sailed through despite opposition from skateboarders and roller skaters, who wanted a park for their own use, she said. Some residents objected to the noise that would emanate from a dog park.
Once one of four proposed sites is selected, the measure will come back to the City Council for approval, probably in a few months, Joseph said.
