Hiker Plunges to His Death in Yosemite Park

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK — An Englishman was killed in a fall while hiking in the High Sierra Nevada at the eastern edge of Yosemite National Park, rangers said Wednesday.
Park rescue workers recovered the body of Charles Richards, 67, on Tuesday.
Richards, of Wirksworth, Derbyshire, became fatigued Sunday during a day hike that started at the 10,000-foot elevation and fell 30 to 50 feet, said park spokesman Kendell Thompson. Richards died from apparent head injuries.
His wife, Allison, spent the night in Yosemite’s back country, then hiked out for help Monday. Rescuers reached the remote scene late that day.
Richards is the seventh person to die this year in an accident at Yosemite.
