BUENA PARK — An off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was shot in the head and critically wounded Thursday night by one of two men who were robbing a hair salon.
The shooting occurred about 9 p.m. at the De Cut Salon on Western Avenue at La Palma Avenue, across the street from Knott’s Berry Farm. Police said two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies, a man and a woman, were in the salon apparently getting haircuts when the robbers entered and demanded everyone’s wallet and watches.
Although the deputies were in plainclothes, the robbers somehow found out that at least one of them was an officer and opened fire.
“The two robbers identified him and shot him in the back of the head,” said Sgt. Ken Coovert of the Buena Park police.
The 26-year-old deputy was taken to Western Medical Center. His name had not been released late Thursday.
The robbers escaped with the wallets and watches.
