*** 1/2 LOS FABULOSOS CADILLACS “Fabulosos Calavera,” BMG
- Share via
A deep, heartfelt album by what used to be the most shallow band in Argentine rock, “Fabulosos Calavera” finds Los Fabulosos Cadillacs in high gear, immersed in a schizoid’s musical collage that includes cheesy ‘70s pop, spaghetti western soundtracks, hard core and a sudden turn toward the jazzier side of things.
Lyrically, the record offers a much sharper focus, with constant references to death, seen here as some colorful, crass joker, and nods to Argentine greats (writer Ernesto Sabato, tango master Astor Piazzolla). A raw, unconventional treasure from start to finish. Los Fabulosos Cadillacs play tonight at the House of Blues.
