City to Break Ground for 1 of 3 New Parks

City leaders are scheduled to break ground Monday on a new five-acre park in the northeast section of Thousand Oaks.

It could take up to six months before the play area of the Lang Ranch Neighborhood Park is ready, said Conejo Recreation and Park District spokesman Tom Sorensen. The park will include picnic tables, barbecues, a basketball court and a tot lot.

Across from the Chumash Interpretive Center on Lang Ranch Parkway, the park is a joint effort between the park district and the developer, Lang Ranch Co. Each is kicking in about $250,000, Sorensen said.

“People buying homes out there need a park,” he said.

The Lang Ranch park is one of three parks being added to the district within the next six months. Rancho Conejo Playfield on Ventu Park Road and Lawrence Drive should be ready in about 90 days.

The bidding process will open the first week of September for construction of Newbury Gateway Park on Borchard Road and Michael Drive.
