In the second such incident in less than a week, police cited a man Saturday for raising fighting cocks in the backyard of his Oxnard home, authorities said.
Officers cited Danilo Tibay Masaya and removed 40 roosters and about 60 hens from coops located in the rear of his home at 2050 San Benito St.
Police said that 36 of the roosters had cropped heads and spurs, a typical indication that the animals were used for fighting. The animals were taken to the county animal shelter in Camarillo.
According to city regulations, it is illegal to possess roosters within city limits. Also, state laws forbids raising cocks for fighting.
On Wednesday, officers seized about 50 roosters from a residence in the 1800 block of El Dorado Avenue.
