Two power outages affected more than 5,000 Camarillo and Ventura customers Sunday afternoon, according to officials with Southern California Edison.
The first outage hit at 1:30 p.m. when seven transformers went off-line in Camarillo, shutting off power to 3,000 customers, said Barbara Brown, a spokeswoman for the power company.
Edison crews had reestablished power to most of the customers by 4 p.m., Brown said. While crews were not sure why the power went out, they determined that the trouble began in the area of Paseo Camarillo and Carmen Drive.
Street lights went out and fire and burglar alarms in the Avenue and downtown sections of Ventura were tripped about 3:40 p.m., when a fire on a power pole at North Ventura Avenue and East McFarlane Drive burned through two 16,000-volt lines and another 4,000-volt line, Brown said.
The outage affected 2,100 customers, Brown said, and power was expected to be restored by 6 p.m.
