Mercury Rallies to Victory, Leads Sparks by Two Games

Tia Jackson scored all four of her points in overtime as the Mercury rallied from a 14-point halftime deficit and beat the Utah Starzz, 71-63, Sunday night before 14,591 at Phoenix.
The Mercury (13-11) opened a two-game lead in the Western Conference over the Sparks. The Starzz (6-19) lost their sixth in a row.
Michele Timms of Phoenix tied a WNBA record with eight steals.
Cleveland 81, Charlotte 49--Eva Nemcova scored 21 points before 10,555 at Cleveland to lead the Rockers (13-12) to their largest margin of victory this season.
The Rockers pulled to within a half-game of the Sting (13-11) in the battle for the league’s fourth and final playoff spot.
Rhonda Mapp led Charlotte with 12 points.
Houston 70, New York 55--Cynthia Cooper scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half before 17,499 at New York as the Comets (17-8) took over first place in the Eastern Conference.
Rebecca Lobo had 13 points for the Liberty (16-8), who had been in first place the entire season.
