A Molotov cocktail that was thrown into the Department of Motor Vehicles office in San Pedro early Monday caused about $1,000 worth of damage, authorities said. No one was injured.
Los Angeles police were responding to an alarm that had been set off about 1:20 a.m. when they discovered that a window on the north wall of the Gaffey Street office had been broken and a small fire was burning inside. Firefighters were called, but the fire burned out on its own.
The fire singed a portion of the floor and a wall. A California Highway Patrol spokesman said no suspects have been arrested and a motive for the attack was not immediately known.
