Mammoth Ski Area

* I have been reading about the Mammoth Lakes Town Council’s desire to make their resort a “world class” ski resort on a par with Aspen and Vail (Aug. 11).
As a resident of Orange County I already have a terrible time getting to Mammoth for a weekend of skiing. The highway out past Palmdale/Lancaster is bumper-to-bumper on Friday nights, as is the alternative route, out toward Las Vegas. In addition Highway 395 is a nightmare, with too few passing lanes and with speed traps through the small towns along the highway.
How are the large numbers of people they project going to get to Mammoth? I presume the city wants to attract the wealthy who are able to fly, because the roads are already impacted and will only get worse. The improvements to Highway 14 will be obsolete before they are completed. Are the wealthy they hope to attract willing to stand in 30-45-minute lift lines once they get to the slopes?
