Council to Consider Plan to Repay Disney

The City Council today will consider an agreement to reimburse Walt Disney World Co. up to $2.3 million for electrical work needed in the city’s resort area.
Anaheim’s Public Utilities Department has to expand its electrical distribution system to accommodate the expansion of Disneyland, Anaheim Convention Center and other resort developments, city staff members said.
Part of the system crosses onto Disney’s property, where the company has already started construction on the theme park addition. As a result, city staff said, it would be more cost-efficient if Disney included much of the electrical work as part of its project.
In return, the city would pay for the work.
Overall, about $13 million will be spent to expand the electrical system in the resort area.
The council also will consider reducing the tax rate for $10 million in bonds issued in 1986 to pay for storm drain improvements.
Debt service on the bonds is paid through a property tax levy. The lower tax rate proposed would result in a cost of $4.70 for an assessed value of $100,000, compared with $4.88 last year.
The meeting begins at 5 p.m in City Council Chambers, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd. Information: (714) 254-5166.
