Washington Is Going Nowhere Fast Yet

Tailback Delon Washington likes to think this is the year he and the Trojans are really going somewhere.
It just won’t be in his car.
Washington, a 1,000-yard rusher as a sophomore who had a suspension-marred season last year, has a small problem with his wheels. He no longer has any after his car was stolen from a campus lot sometime Sunday.
“A ’91 Accord with 82,000 miles. No nice rims or anything,” Washington said.
Washington has only watched drills the last two days because of a sore Achilles’ tendon. But Coach John Robinson and offensive coordinator Hue Jackson have made it clear he’s at the top of the heap of running backs, even though Washington rushed for only 370 yards last season, missing three games because of an ethical question involving academics.
“I wish I had two more years,” Washington said.
With his car gone, he has one less worry anyway.
“I was just telling myself it needed a wash.”

Tempers flared on the field between offensive lineman Chris Brymer and defensive lineman Lawrence Larry. “You can’t compete and not get pretty close to the edge,” Robinson said, dismissing the skirmish. . . . Freshmen Antoine Harris, a tight end, and Antuan Simmons, a cornerback, have been standouts, Robinson said.
