Matter of Money: The dispute about putting a golf course in the Big Tujunga Wash comes down, as many disputes do, to the question of how much the spot is worth. Is it worth $3 million, as golf course foes assert? Or $3.5 million, which is how much the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy offered? Now, the Los Angeles city attorney will hire an independent appraiser to help determine the land’s value. . . . We know one thing: When the City Council wouldn’t allow a golf course and equestrian center on the flood plain, the developer filed a claim against the city . . . for $215 million.
