It’s a Sweep for Red Sox

OAKLAND — Getting Boston back to .500 means a lot to Tim Wakefield, who figures to play a big part in whether the Red Sox stay there.
“It’s a big step, considering how we played earlier in the season,” Wakefield said after the Red Sox defeated the Oakland Athletics, 7-5, Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader.
Boston did even better by winning the second game, 5-4, in 13 innings to win its season-high sixth consecutive game and reach the .500 mark for the first time since May 4.
