Two people were left homeless Friday after a fire seriously damaged their residence.
The fire, which took 10 Ventura County fire engines to extinguish, began at about 3:50 p.m. in the garage of 1944 Cannes Drive and quickly spread to the attic.
Four adults and one child--including the two adults who lived in the residence--were in the house and unaware of the fire until a neighbor rushed over to alert them, according to Karen Nelson, a Fire Department spokeswoman.
“All of them got out OK,” she said. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze in 50 minutes, and the cause remained under investigation, Nelson said.
The fire caused $30,000 in structural and smoke damage to the $300,000 house and destroyed $50,000 of the $150,000 in contents, including two vehicles, Nelson said.
The Red Cross was called to ensure that the victims, who requested anonymity, had a place to stay.
