LANCASTER — An hours-old newborn, with umbilical cord still attached, was found in a dumpster by a resident Friday morning, officials said.
The infant, a black male, was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital where he was listed in stable condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
The baby was found in the 3300 block of West Avenue J-4 at about 9:40 a.m., said Lt. John Crabb of the Antelope Valley sheriff’s station. Now the search is on for the mother.
“We’re hoping somebody who knows a pregnant person who is no longer pregnant [and] who doesn’t have a baby will give us a call,” Crabb said. “We’re [offering] pleas for the mother to come forward and get her baby.”
It is expected that the infant will be handed over to the county Department of Social Services.
