Shootout Stars: About 10 Valley police officers became VIPs Friday when they were honored at a reception for the LAPD’s new chief. Standing tall in their Class A uniforms, eight of the cops were shot during the botched North Hollywood bank robbery and two were shot during a confrontation in Chatsworth that left a Glendale officer dead.
* NEW CHIEF: Bernard C. Parks was formally sworn in as the 52nd chief of the LAPD. Nearly 1,000 well-wishers attended the ceremony, including three of Parks’ predecessors. B1
* VALLEY 200: Los Angeles City Councilman Howard Finn used his expertise as a home builder to take a leading role in land-use and environmental issues. B2
* CSUN FOOTBALL: Jim Fenwick has molded championship football teams before, but never have the stakes been higher as he takes over at Cal State Northridge. The team, and its Big Sky Conference competition, is previewed. C1
